At the Music Center we believe that every student has the best opportunity to succeed with a properly functioning musical instrument. In the early stages of their musical career a beginning musician has to rely on the instrument to function well in order to develop their skills to perform. From the first lesson, where they attempt to make their very first sound, through the development of their technique, it is important that their equipment be kept in proper adjustment to avoid frustration and possibly dropping out of music. We strive to do quality repairs, as quickly as possible and at a reasonable price. Prices for playing condition are dependent upon the labor intensity involved and the parts needed. Estimates are available.

Band Instruments

Woodwind Instruments

Normal Adjustment to Restore to Playing Condition– Replacement of necessary key cork, joint corks, and pads; straightening bent keys; recovering lost motion; closing all leaks. Key swedging done on request only or with approved quote on an instrument by instrument basis.

Repads (Mechanical Overhaul)– All instruments are completely dismantled; keys and body parts are cleaned; keys, tenon and necks are recorked as necessary; all screw and rods are cleaned then oiled; instrument reassembled after all new pads have been installed; repads includes completed adjustment and testing.

Overhauls (Cosmetic and Mechanical)– Flutes and Piccolos – All instruments are completely dismantled; keys and body parts are cleaned and all dents removed; body and keys are polished; corks and pads are replaced; action is repaired as necessary; keys are wedged to recover lost motion; instrument is reassembled, adjusted and tested. It also includes key refitting. Clarinets, Oboes, Bassoons, Etc. – All instruments are completely dismantled; keys and body parts are cleaned; body and posts are polished; corks and pads are replaced; action is repaired as necessary; keys are swedged to recover lost motion; instruments are reassembled, adjusted and tested. Crack work done on request only or with approved quote on a per instrument basis. Wood is oiled, if needed. Saxophones – All instruments are completely dismantled; keys and body parts are cleaned and polished; all dents are removed; corks and pads are replaced; action is repaired as necessary; keys are wedged to recover lost motion; instruments is reassembled, adjusted and tested.

Brass Instruments

Normal Adjustments to Restore to playing condition– Replacement of key cords, valve stem felts and corks; pull and lube slides and pistons; resolder loose connections. Dent work done on request only or with approved quote on an instrument by instrument basis.

Chemical Clean on Brass Lacquered and Silver Plated Instruments– All instruments are completely dismantled; all tubings and mouthpieces are chemically cleaned; valves or rotors are cleaned, oiled and adjusted with new cork washers and felts or bumpers installed; water key corks are replaced; all tuning slides are greased; rotary valves are restrung; instruments is completely reassembled and tested.

Clean and Silver– same as above chemical clean but includes completed polishing.
